Uff!

Autosport says it was a cross-country skiing accident. That was part of his training program. He even had to undergo surgery.

Let's hope he's fit soon.

Jari-Matti Latvala was injured - WRC Rally Argentina missed
13.04.2012 16:43

Ford driver Jari-Matti Latvala will not compete in Argentina rally.

Finnish driver crashed in cross-country skiing in Lapland, and broke his left collarbone. He can not compete in the rally in two weeks time.

Seven screws were put into Latvala's collar bone. Recovery will take weeks, but hopes are that he could be able to participate in Greek Acropolis rally in May.

Ford had raised the Norwegian Mads Ostberg to factory team's second driver to alongside with Petter Solberg.

Is there anything the guy can do without crashing?

Apparently he offered to not be treated as number one by Ford after the last rally and they refused. Now he won't even be there, I wonder if they will give Solberg better status or still insist Latvala is the only one who can beat Loeb. :p

I don't think Latvala or the team thinks he will anymore compete for WDC in this year :(

Latvala reiterated the skiing accident: "I flew around in a big circle"
Posted on 04.13.2012 17:48 (updated 18:02)

Ford driver Jari-Matti Latvala had to in practice say good bye for championchip dreams, after getting injured in a skiing track.

Finnish Ford driver broke his collarbone on Wednesday skiing trip in Levi Lapland. The injury requires six weeks recovery time, so he will not compete in Argentina rally.

- I was already coming back back to the cottage, when in a downhill ski got stuck. I flew upside down in a big arc, landing directly on my left shoulder. I knew immediately that the clavicle was broken, Latvala tells.

Next day the clavicle was already operated in Helsinki, but Argentina Rally two weeks away, however, comes in too quickly.

- First, I thought I'll go there to drive carefully for P5-10. Fractured clavicle has now an iron plate, which is attached with seven screws. If for some reason, however, the iron sheet would come loose or break, then it would take six months to recover. I had to choose that if I am out of one race or in the worst case for the rest of the season, Latvala said.

In early April 27 years of age turned Ford stars have been tested on this season. He has led every race of the season, but won only one. Other races have been completed to ditch.

- I already thought that the bottom has been seen in Portugal. But it does not seem to have been so. Now I'm really tested. A difficult season continues to be difficult, Latvala admits.

Like I said, I'm sad for Jari-Matti. He is the fastesd driver in WRC. If he just focused 100 %, he could win rallies and the title.

Latvala admitted in a Finnish talk show that he has been messing around and slipped to over trying. He also said that his manager Timo Jouhki will be talking to both Ford and VW to negotiate a deal for the future. Jari-Matti believes VW's budget will be good. He says he could stay in Ford but could also switch to VW. Only the time will tell what will happen.

Jari-matti said the thing about the plans. I speculated in which team he could be. There has bee talk about VW, but Ford would like to keep Jari-Matti. Let's wait and see...
