My gosh! BRM V16

The 3.5 litre naturally aspirated era was the best in engine notes, because it was in the early 90's that we could see a great variety of sounds in a F1 race.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLjrC_wD ... re=related - the Ford/Cosworth V8. It lasted pretty long in F1, and was one of the final V8's that sounded like this until their end in 1997. It's still my favourite sounding V8 in F1, because today's spec is too mickey mouse because has a very small capacity (2.4L) and still revs too high, even if limited from 22000 to the current 18000rpm. I say bring back the 3.0/3.5L 15000rpm engines!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IBggAq6Akdw - one of my favourites, the Renault RS6 V10 from 1994, the later versions of the engine can rev more than this one but I think this is the best sounding V10 of all time. The final V10's were made boring because they nearly sounded all the same and because of the high revs, so I think the RS6 is still the V10 benchmark.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzL79U5X ... re=related - my (and seemingly everyone's) favourite V12 - the Ferrari Tipo 044 from 1995. This one sounds just brilliant and the end of the V12's was the end of an era in F1.
Not to mention the great-sounding turbocharged V6 and Straight-4 engines and also the V16 BRM
EDIT: I almost forgot these videos, they are a compilation (not mine) of the 3 engine layouts I mentioned. Ordered from V8 to V12, years range from 1992 to 1997.

Does anyone have a recording of the Lamborghini V-12? I remember hearing it in the early '90s at Montreal and I thought it sounded even cooler than the Ferrari. I think it was used by Larrousse as well as the factory Lambo team. I also recall the Lamborghini F1 car looked cool as hell, but was quite a dog.

The engines of the McLarens this year, make such a phenominal sound, never heard anything like that in the 7 years that I've been to a GP. Such a raw grumble!
mannn the sound of Virgin and Lotus are great - like someone is shooting, when they change gears it makes a big BANG -
if they change in future to 4 cylinder i will never go to a GP again - cuz i dont wanna listen to my own car there.... instead they can bring back the V10

I have to agree with earlier poster and go with the Matra V12 from the early 70's. Was distinctly different from the others at the time, and pure bliss.

Yeah, this is true because Matra´s V12 had a sound more acute than the Ferrari´s V12 on years of 70. (If he had kept the Matra engine (the same date that were abolished in the F1 V12 engine, which was in 1995) would have been a sound still sharper than the Ferrari of 1995).
