If it's your first time at a Grand Prix, then the following pointers may be useful for the big day.

Getting to the Circuit

There are usually a number of different ways to reach the circuit, and each circuit will have its own rules and networks in place over the weekend. For specific circuit information check the 'Travel Advice' section, but the following can be considered:

* Shuttle bus - many circuits put on free or payable shuttle buses from local towns and/or stations to the circuit. These do not need to be booked in advance.
* Public transport - some circuits are located close enough to public transport stops to walk from.
* Driving - most circuits offer parking facilities, but be aware that traffic can be very slow, especially on race day. Always check the parking provisions prior to driving as you may need to pre-purchase a pass.
* Taxi - taxis go to and from most circuits but traffic can be slow. Your hotel can usually arrange a reliable taxi to the circuit, but it's worth considering that it may take a little time to get a taxi back at the end of the day.
* Helicopter/Aircraft - if you want to arrive in style then many circuits feature helipads or local airports shuttle customers directly to the track.

Whichever option you choose, keep in mind that a very large number of people will be leaving after the race so please allow a generous amount of time for your exit.

The Weather
Mother nature can be unforgiving, so always check the weather forecast before you set out each day. Some grandstands provide covers, but this is no guarantee of protection from the sun or rain so dress appropriately. In hot weather it's particularly important to bring hats, sunglasses, and sun cream for your protection. If it's raining, waterproofs are essential, and you can bring umbrellas but please be aware it's not practical (and sometimes forbidden) to put them up in a grandstand.

Food and Drink

Every circuit offers food and drink, albeit often at higher prices. The food on offer varies greatly between circuits but generally is in the form of mobile catering vans. Most circuits don't have a problem with you bringing your own refreshments, but some are not keen on spectators bringing their own alcohol. Generally, if you intend to bring alcohol then try to avoid bringing glass bottles and only take what you need, but it does come down to circuit discretion on the day.

Photography and Video
Many circuits actually prohibit the use of photography and video equipment as there are legal and copyright issues surrounding it. However, the reality is, if you attend an event, most people will have one or the other. Generally this doesn't seem to cause a problem, but we have heard of rare incidents in the past when video cameras have been refused. Therefore, whilst we can't endorse either, we would recommend you avoid bringing a video camera.

Seating

If you're in a grandstand/hospitality then seating is reserved and not a problem. However, if you have a general admission ticket then some spectators like to bring their own seats and 'set up camp' for the day. If you haven't been to a circuit before then it's worth checking their policy; most are fine with this as long as the seating you bring is portable e.g. fold-up camping stools.

Hopefully in the future though! :)

No offense but the stuff about video cameras is a load of bull. They search your bags on the way in sometimes but only for water (remember when terrorists tried to use bottles on planes) and guns and bombs. Thats it.

Also Silverstone is relatively cheap for the full weekend if you can afford it. On Fridays and Saturdays your ticket lets you sit in any grandstand (bar about 3) even if you have General Admission.

And my tip is buy an airhorn, lots of fun. :p

Bring your video camera and you may become a youtube superstar like the Japanese fella who recorded the Vettel/Webber shunt at Fuji last year. Also bring your own food and drink,I've been enough big events to know they rip you off big time for that sort of thing. When I last went to see Tottenham Hotspur play I paid £4 for a small burger on the way home which was minging and which made me feel nauseous the next day. They also sold bottles of cokes for £1.70 inside the ground without lids, for fear fans would throw the bottle lids onto the pitch(I'm not joking). These experiences are common at big events like F1 races,so be warned.

Yeah, the chips are minging from the burger van at the back of Stowe. Be warned. :p

On Brazil (for Grandstand A on race day):
- Arrives in the gate of grandstand at 6:30 AM;
- Numbered places? Here, this is one legend...
- You need a lot of money on race day. The water is R$5,00(US$ 2,50)
- Sunscreen and one hat are very recommended.

someday (a long way in the future), when i've got a bit of money in the bank, I want to take a 'gap year' and follow f1 around the world, starting in march, and not coming back home until november. I don't know whether this is going to happen, but it's something to dream about

that would be awesome, I'd come with :p, you'd see so many sights across the world, although there is a 4 week gap in the summer.

Tip: If you're going to the Nurburgring and you have tickets to sit: bring a cushion with you! Otherwise you will be sitting on stone. Don't know if other grands prix have that too. Monza has iron grand stands, you can sit on there without.

Or you could bring a deck chair-Also bring enough food and drink to last the day if they let you,and beware toilets-You'll probably have either long queues or awful facilities.
