Ecclestone also admitted he has been disappointed with Lewis Hamilton's performances so far this year, despite the Briton's charges through the field in some races this year.

"Hamilton has been disappointing," he added. "He was unlucky in the last race but that's what happens when things are going badly for you.

"People praise his overtaking but you don't get any points for passing cars."

Heavy traffic turns qualifying into a lottery. Sutil starts from pole and appears to be on his way to win an uneventful race until on the second to last lap a visibly drunken Raikkonen is caught on camera tossing an empty bottle of booze out of his yacht. Unfortunately for Sutil, it shatters in the braking zone after the tunnel. Hamilton's front left tire takes offense to the broken glass and he crashes into the rear of the poor, poor German. Both are forced to retire and Alonso cruises to victory behind the safety car.

After the race there's a heated argument on the Autosport forums on whether Hamilton's tire deflated because of the glass or his hard-on-tires driving style. Spanish fans praise Alonso for having ten times the racing intelligence of Hamilton. British fans accuse Spanish fans of racism. A video of a teary-eyed Sutil "running like a homo" appears on Youtube's most viewed list. Red Bull decide to postpone the announcement of Raikkonen as Vettel's team-mate for next year.
