Re: Random Conversation I

Post by Ferrariman60 » 29 Jul 2011, 15:16

Hi everyone!

I'm sorry I've been pretty much absent from the forum for quite a while now. I've been working all summer long at a concession stand at the somewhat legendary and somewhat infamous Jersey Shore. (trust me, for those of you who have never been to New Jersey, it is not at all what you might think)

But what that meant for me was driving over 90 miles a day to make $10/hour, which wasn't terrible, but because of that distance, over half of my pay went into my gas tank. :(

So, now, I'm very pleased to announce that I've found a new job at a store only 2 minutes from my house! I am so happy that my long commutes sans-air conditioning (to save fuel) are over!

Also, that means that I will not be completely knackered from working all day and driving over 2 hours in New Jersey traffic, so I'll have more free time, which means you all will be seeing me around more often!

$46,000 per month for a four year old?

http://blogs.wsj.com/wealth/2011/08/03/ ... wealthbeat
"Supermodel Linda Evangelista is asking French billionaire Francois Henri-Pinault for $46,000 a month in child support. He’s the father of Ms. Evangelista’s four-year-old son, Augustin James. And Ms. Evangelista argues that $46,000 is the minimum required to provide for young Augustin in the manner to which he has grown accustomed." (WSJ)
Every four year old needs at least $46,000 per month

At least Henri-Pinault is among the few fathers who could actually pay for that amount of child support!

Riots in England. Tottenham was burning last night.

Riots purely in Tottenham mate. You need to read exactly what happened, it isn't across England. It's just outrageous what happened though.

Funny thing is that if you showed the footage to people in Libya/Syria, they'd be like 'Oh look, the UK is a complete mess, riots everywhere' which simply isn't true. Just appalling what has happened though. Our old mate swca92 lives in Enfield IIRC and its kicking off there tonight

Hello!

It is bizarre to see places you regularly walk by and visit as the top story on the news. I went out earlier and saw a car on fire, a couple of shops smashed and hundreds of police police talking on their radios about where the looters (which they are, nothing to do with the death of that man in Tottenham) were heading. My local Tesco has been looted, shops in Enfield Town (where I've been at School the last seven years) which I know very well have been vandalised, and reports on Twitter which said that armageddon was coming were thankfully mostly false.

An example of that was how the Krispy Kreme on the A10 was at first set on fire, then smashed up. Nothing actually happened at all there, though the Sainsbury's across the road had some windows smashed and stuff nicked. I should strongly add that Enfield is six miles from Tottenham, and a fairly leafy suburb, with nothing like the poverty and deprivation that Tottenham has. This violence in Enfield is completely unrelated to the murder that kicked this off. This is purely a criminal enterprise, an opportunity to some to nick stuff and smash a few things up while they are at it.

I live in England as well, London in Harrow. I saw it on the news and was shocked and really the IPCC should be giving answers quickly to Mark's Family.

Did you see the looting?? It was disgusting.

This is the problem indeed. But you can't blame the IPCC. They need to do a thorough investigation and that takes time. People haven't got patience though in this age of modern social media.

Seems to me a peaceful protest was hijacked by thugs.

The rioting has now spread to Birmingham.
